We interviewed Cheyenne Fykes and Vishaun Ezell, two of the coolest gaming club teachers at Hamady Middle School. If you are interested in games and cool activities, then you should check out this story.

Why do you think it's important for kids to join the game club?

Cheyenne Fykes: "I think it's important for kids to realize that the things they do at home as a hobby have an organized future they can participate in. Each Esport, in particular, is getting a lot of scholarships. This teaches them that they can turn this hobby into something productive."

Why was it essential to start a Middle School Esport?

Vishaun Ezell: "I'm all about having a feeders system. The Middle School will be in the feeder group for the high school."

What are the activities the kids do at the Middle School Gaming Club?

Vishaun Ezell: Once a week, they have an actual assignment. We talk about how gaming got started, what kinds of games are important, and how they should be working together."

What are the difficulties of teaching?

Cheyenne Fykes: "I think the toughest part is getting the students to recognize that being a team is more than just winning the game. You have to communicate and be able to share."

How long have you been a gamer?

Cheyenne Fykes: "I've personally known about video games since the PlayStation one came out. My dad introduced me to video games a long time ago when I was six."

What would you tell the parents that think it's just about video games?

Cheyenne Fykes: "I'll tell them that we had a student at this school that had a full-ride scholarship to the University of Kentucky through Esport. They offer scholarship opportunities and internships.

What games do they play?

Cheyenne Fykes: "We have them playing Knockout City, Fortnite, Rocket League, and Overwatch 2."
