Developing a Positive Character

Developing a Positive Character

Character development means making positive choices for yourself on a daily basis.   People with good character do the right thing even if everyone else is telling them they should do something wrong.  They choose friends who consistently make good choices because they understand that the company they keep can influence their behavior.  They understand that life is a learning experience and they try to learn lessons from their failures and mistakes rather than being defined by them.  They understand that every day is a new beginning from which we can move forward into a positive future or allow the past to restrain or define us.  People with good character consistently try to develop good habits and resist bad habits, knowing that what we do consistently, over time, defines us and will influence our destiny.  People with good character view life as an opportunity to serve and help others, rather than looking only for opportunities to forward their own self-interests.  They understand that the only thing we take away from life is what we freely give to help others.  They try to put themselves in the shoes of others and ask themselves, what can I do to make this persons day better?  A compliment, and word of gratitude or a helpful action can make someone’s day. They help freely, knowing that rewards are inherent in service, but serving without consideration for reward, because it is the right thing to do.  People with good character work hard and are kind to others.  There is no mystery in developing a good character, but we have to want to achieve it.
