Students are back in school and excited about the year!  We are happy to see them and interested in helping them succeed.  Parents and students may be wondering, “how do I start off the year right and get good grades?”  Getting good grades is really a matter of hard work, diligence and excellent study skills.  First and foremost, students need to come to school on time, every day.   They need to be in class in order to learn the material!  They also need to be prepared with school supplies and completed homework.  Many teachers count homework in a student’s grades because they feel it is important to practice at home.  Encouraging an hour a night at least of study, homework or reading time will go a long way in ensuring your child’s success in school!  Students also need to study hard for tests by consistently taking notes in class, reading the text book every day and outlining important information.  Students who study and prepare every day will be much more able to pass tests when the time comes.  Helping your child get good grades also means making sure they have not only a set time to study, but also a quiet place without distractions to ensure that they can focus.  Making sure they eat well, exercise frequently and get enough sleep are also important components in keeping them healthy and ready to learn.  Parents have a big job in helping their student succeed.  Students may not appreciate the rules that you set for them at home now, but eventually, they will thank you for helping them to do their best!!!
